Create a manuel location structure
Purpose
Create a location structure for your project.
Background
You can create a location structure with sub-levels and upload designs which can show exact locations for your tasks regarding the project.
Things you should be attentive to
- Only project administrators can create a location structure
- Click on this guide if you want to upload a 3D model
- You can create as many locations as you need.
How to
- Open your Connex Project
- Go to the module "Project administrator"
- Click on “locations” in the menu to the left
- Click on “Create location”
- Enter a location name - Fx the name of the building
- Click “Save”
- Click "Create location structure"
- Enter a name - This will be the top level of your location structure
- Click “Create”
- Now you can:
- Add levels
- Add drawings to the level and edit the level
Generate a location structure from an IFC file
Purpose
Create an autogenerated location structure based on your IFC file.
Background
You can get Connex to autogenerate the location structure based on the 3D model of the construction case.
Things you should be attentive to
- Only project administrators can create a location structure.
- You can create as many locations as you need.
How to
- Open your Connex Project
- Go to the module "Project administration"
- Click on “locations” in the menu to the left
- Click on “Create location”
- Enter a location name - Fx the name of the building
- Click “Save”
- Click "Upload file" and select the file on your computer
- Click "Upload"
- Your model is uploaded and being processed. Reload the page after a few minutes.
Upload and open a BIM model
Purpose
Upload one or more models to your Connex Project.
Background
You can upload one or more BIM models to your Connex Project, and use the integrated BIM viewer to inspect the models.
Things you should be attentive to
- You need to create a location before you can upload one or more models. Follow one of these guides;

How to
- Open your Connex Project
- Click on " Project administration "
- Click "Locations" in the left side menu
- Select the location you want to upload a model to
- Click the tab "Models"
- Click the button "Upload model"
- Upload the model directly from your computer or transfer the model from an RIB Project
- Click "Upload"
- Your model is now uploaded, and you can open it in the BIM viewer by clicking the file name
Merge models into a federated model
Purpose
Combine two or more models into one federated model.
Background
Collect models in a federated model to get an overview of collisions, among other things.
Things you should be attentive to
- Only Project Administrators can create federated models.
- Once a federated model is created, all users can access it in the model overview.
How to
- Open a Connex Project
- Click "Project Administration" in the menu to the left
- Click on "Locations"
- Select a location
- Click on "Models"
- Click "Collect models in a federated model"
- Select the models you want to collect in a federated model
- Click "Federate"
- Enter the name of the new shared model and click "Federate selected"
- Your federated model is generated and can then be opened in the model overview
Upload a new version of a drawing or model
Purpose
Upload a new version of a drawing or model for your project.
Background
You can version both drawings and models in Connex, so your project always contains the latest versions.
Things you should be attentive to
- Only project administrators can upload new versions of drawings and models.
- When you upload a new version, it needs to have the same name as the existing version, and then Connex will group the model/drawing and make the newest version, the one displayed. Previous versions can still be opened and are still related to associated tasks and registrations.
- If you upload a new version of a model that is part of a federated model, a new federated model is generated with the latest version of each model.
- Tasks and registrations will contain information about which version of a drawing or model is used for the location.
How to
Upload a new version of a drawing
- Open your Connex Project
- Go to the "Project Administration" module
- Click on "Locations" in the menu to the left
- Open a location and navigate to the specific location where you want to upload a new version of a drawing
- Click on the "Upload" button
- Upload the new version of the drawing
NOTE: Remember that it must have the exact same file name as the existing drawing
Upload a new version of a model
- Open your Connex Project
- Go to the "Project Administration" module
- Click on "Locations" in the menu to the left
- Open a location
- Go to the "Models" tab
- Click on the "Upload model" button
NOTE: Remember that it must have the exact same file name as the existing model
